Hello and welcome!
With so much bad news I decided it was time to make a positive change in the world, and sign up to enter the ADRA Queenstown Classic in March 2015.
To prepare for this challenging "adventure" I have started many hours a week in training. From mid September (when I got my road bike) until mid January I have completed about 1,000km on the road! For the last 6 weeks before the event I plan to complete a minimum of 200 km every week. So you can see I am serious about this. But I cannot do this alone! I need you to get involved by sponsoring me on the ride. And to show further commitment I will match your donation, dollar-for-dollar (up to a limit of $5,000).And if you too are sickened by the disasters, wars and suffering in the news then do something posiitive about it! Sponsor me and sponsor ADRA!
How will the money be used? Go to www.adra.org.nz to find out (or look at the ADRA information below).
I would also really appreciate it if you could share my page above or comment below so more people know about it.
Click the green 'Donate' button to make a secure online donation.
Thanks so much for your support!
NO promises to shave legs or head, or wear my lycra bike outfit in a public place, if I reach the fundraising goal, but someone has suggested I complete the ride in a chicken suit if I reach the fundraising target. Well I am considering it!
FEB 2 Update over the last 3 weeks I have completed 190km, 140km and 125km. Yesterday's 50km has left me feeling sore in a few places. With 5 weeks to go I am starting to feel a bit anxious that I won't be ready. Just hope the old body gets through the training, let alone the actual ride in Queenstown!
FEB 16 Update yesterday I completed a ride of over 60km with Pr Temo, Pr Iererua, Paul and Cherie, and actually didn't feel too bad at the end of it. And this morning I expected to be a bundle of aches and pains and not able to move. Well I do feel a bit sore but not as bad as I expected so maybe the training is starting to pay off. Next Sunday the plan is to complete an 80km circuit and then 100km the Sunday after that. With only 20 days to go until the ride its time to get serious!
FEB 24 Update On Sunday completed 80km! Wow! And I can still walk OK, amazing! I did the Sunday ride with Matt, but 2 punctures meant he did 40km under Toyota power (ie cheating). Pr Temo almost completed the distance as he also got 2 punctures, falling short by about 3km, also helped by Mr Toyota. Now its time to think about how to transport the bike on the plane. Only 12 days to go!!!! Woohoo I can hardly wait!!!!!!!
MAR 2 Update Yesterday completed another 80km epic ride with my old mate Pr Temo. The guy is a legend! He just does not stop! And am still walking around OK so I hope I am now ready for the ride. Leaving for Queenstown this Friday afternoon.
